UPDATE: I am so thrilled to share that I was one of the winners in this contest. I am looking forward to the critique from the generous Erin Siu @erinsiu. Can’t thank @KaitlynLeann17 and @LydiaLukidis enough for organizing this!
I chanced upon the #Fallwritingfrenzy hosted by @KaitlynLeann17 and @LydiaLukidis on Twitter. Participants are to choose one of 15 images to be inspired by and write something #kidlit in fewer than 200 words. Because I LOVE writing to prompts, I couldnt resist!
It was hard choosing and I actually ended up writing two pieces. After much agonizing, I had to choose one entry to send in, so I decided to go with the one that made me feel all warm and happy.
Here’s my entry for image 15
Amma, is Diwali here?
Amma,
Your Sari rustles like the crisp fall leaves
Your braid swings with the autumn breeze
Your Bindi shines like the bright full moon
Your kohl-lined eyes look like lotus blooms
Your bangles jingle like a bird’s sweet song
Your Puja bells ring as I clap along
Lamps alit, the night is full of cheer
Tell me, Amma, is Diwali here?
You painted such a rich picture here, I can almost hear the sounds and feel the breeze.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and share your thoughts!
Wonderful Sandhya! I love the imagery you’ve used. Diwali was one of my favourite times of the year when we lived in Nepal many years ago. Congrats and good luck!
Thank you for taking the time. It must have been such a great experience seeing Diwali in Nepal. Now I am missing nostalgic!
